GDS Salary Explained: TRCA levels, increments and DA

What TRCA means

Gramin Dak Sevaks are not paid regular pay scales - they draw TRCA (Time Related Continuity Allowance). Your TRCA is a basic figure fixed by your level (Level 1 or Level 2, set by your post's workload standard: up to 4 hours vs more) and it grows with annual increments.

Levels and workload

Level 1 covers BPM/ABPM/Dak Sevak posts with a smaller workload; Level 2 covers higher-workload posts. The basic TRCA differs by level - the GDS pay calculator shows both scales with DA.

Increments and DA

TRCA rises by about 3% each year via increments. On top of basic, GDS get Dearness Allowance - a percentage of basic revised periodically with government DA orders (same announcements as regular staff). Your effective monthly figure is basic + DA; the calculator adds the current DA slab automatically.

GDS vs regular employee

GDS are not 'government servants' for pay purposes - no pay commission fitment, no HRA, different leave rules. But TRCA, DA and yearly increments are guaranteed. Many GDS use the post as an entry point toward departmental exams for regular posts like MTS/Postman.

Estimating your figure

Enter your level and years of service in the GDS pay calculator - it compounds your increments, applies the DA rate and shows a year-wise basic/DA/total table. For result-season planning, the merit toolkit estimates your band against indicative cutoffs.
